How to Write: Books

I have found these books to be enormously helpful:

Roget's Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases, by Peter Mark Roget, Grosset & Dunlap, New York, revised 1935.  Authorized American edition.  You need this!  You can find it online for as low as $17.50.  The oldest editions are best.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Your Romance Published, by Julie Beard, Alpha Books, Indianapolis, 2000.

The Comic Toolbox, by John Voorhaus, Silman-James Press, Los Angeles, 1994.

Comics and Sequential Art, by Will Eisner, Poorhouse Press, Tamarac Florida 1985.

Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud, Kitchen Sink Press, Northampton Massachusetts 1993.

Dream Country, by Neil Gaiman, a Sandman graphic novel, Warner Brothers, New York, 1991.  See article in the back called "Script Introduction" by Neil Gaiman.

I especially recommend the articles on the author websites below.
